Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious cup on fourteen separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the scoring early on.

However, Marseille fired twice late to seize a shock lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the final moments to send the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty win.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the last thirteen years.
